ABC Fiesta with Mister G at the Branch Library, Veterans Day Event at Bunker Hill

Events this week in Charlestown.

Mister G (Ben Gundersheimer), a leading figure in the world of children's music, will be performing music from his literacy-themed, bilingual CD,  "ABC Fiesta" on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Charlestown branch of the Boston Public Library, 179 Main St. Inspired by his tours throughout Latin America, including Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia, the album spans a wide range of musical styles from rock to reggae, funk to folk and a host of Latin influences.

• Bunker Hill Community College will host Shoshana Johnson, the author of "I’m Still Standing" and the first black female prisoner of war in U.S. military
history, in a Veterans Day Celebration at the college on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. Johnson will speak about the attack on her U.S. Army convoy during Operation Iraqi Freedom, her capture with other members of her company and the acts of bravery that followed until their rescue by U.S. Marines.

• Join the staff of the Charlestown branch of the Boston Public Library, 179 Main St., on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 10:30 a.m., 11:05 a.m. or 11:40 a.m. for a 30-minute story time and animal meet-and-greet. A naturalist teacher from Mass Audubon will read a story and introduce a real live animal from the book. Children will be able to watch, but not touch, as the animal explores its enclosure and has a snack. Each story time is strictly limited to 15 children with their grownups. Sign in with Ms. Laura when you arrive; you may emaill miller@bpl.org to reserve a place. All ages are welcome.

• Join Whole Foods Charlestown at our pop-up cooking center near the Meat Department for a stress free series covering all things Thanksgiving. This Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m., the staff will discuss holiday appetizers.
