Suffolk Construction’s Boston Scholar Athlete Program announced that five Charlestown students will play in this weekend's Dr. Joseph D. Warren Memorial Boston City League Basketball All-Star Game.
Juniors Sara Centeio and Shannon Simpson will join the girls' squad. Juniors Tyrese Hoxter and Omar Orriols, along with senior Rony Fernandes will join the boys' squad.
The second annual game is sponsored by the BSA and Boston Center for Youth and Families. The Boys’ and Girls’ games will feature the city's top high school basketball all-stars, as voted by their coaches.
Attendees will have the opportunity to have photos taken with the Celtics trophy. Admission is free.
The BSA was launched in the summer of 2009 in collaboration with Mayor Thomas Menino, Superintendent Dr. Carol Johnson, and John Fish of Suffolk Construction with the goal of increasing opportunities for Boston Public scholar-athletes to achieve academic success through athletics. BSA Zones are staffed by trained Facilitators and offer students in grades 9-12 a place to study, access resources, and receive tutoring for free. The BSA currently provides support to all 19 Boston Public High Schools, 151 athletic teams, 3,900 scholar-athletes and 132 coaches. www.bostonscholarathlete.org
