Boston Mayor Requests Delay in Casino Status Prior to Gaming Commission Meeting
The commission planned to discuss an assertion by the mayor on Thursday that would allow Boston to have input in area casino decisions.
Boston Mayor Martin Walsh this week requested a delay form the Massachusetts Gaming Commission prior to the start of discussions in regards to two casinos in the area, the Boston Herald reported.
The Gaming Commission on Thursday was set to take up an assertion by Walsh that the city is entitled to have input in decisions to locate a casino at Suffolk Downs in Revere or in Everett, according to WCVB.
Walsh, in a letter to the Gaming Commission on Wednesday, requested a delay until April 21 to decide if Boston will look to host community status to proposed casinos in Everett and Revere, according to the Herald.

A proposed casino resort in Everett across the bridge from Charlestown's Sullivan Square has caused debate amongst Charlestown residents, with representatives of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission deeming Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts "suitable" to obtain a casino license in eastern Massachusetts in December. About 60 percent of the casino’s estimated traffic would come by way of Sullivan Square in Charlestown.
Developers and casinos have 30 days to reach a mitigation agreement once the Gaming Commission designates surrounding communities, according to the Herald.
