Police Bust Craigslist Dealer in Charlestown

Malden man used online site to arrange drug sales, according to police.

Officers arrested a Malden man recently after using craigslist to arrange to buy marijuana from him behind the on Austin Street.

According to a police report, officers first became aware of Andrew Maxwell of 22 Clayton Street in Malden through a craigslist post advertising the sale of “purple,” a particular kind of marijuana.

An officer exchanged several emails with Maxwell, a police report said, before agreeing to buy a “slice” (a street term meaning one-eighth of an ounce) behind the 99s on March 26.

The officer then exchanged a number of text messages with Maxwell before meeting Maxwell in the parking lot. Once in the vehicle, the officer handed over $60 of cash a received a bag of what he believed to be marijuana.

The officer then left the vehicle and told his colleagues he had made the buy. Maxwell drove out of the parking lot before an officer stopped him on Rutherford Avenue. After being arrested, Maxwell told officers “I have weed in the car.”

Officers recovered a large plastic bag of marijuana in addition to a digital scale from the vehicle’s center console. Officers also recovered a small zipper bag containing marijuana from Maxwell’s jeans pocket.

As a result of the incident, Maxwell was charged with possession of a class D substance with the intent to distribute it.

Pot shouldn't be illegal anyway. What kind of progress is being in dealing with the numerous assaults and burglaries that haven't been occurring in Charlestown?
John Neves April 04, 2012 at 11:04 PM
Yes citizen Owen C., those assaults and burglaries its to buy POT and others, get it???
thatch April 05, 2012 at 02:51 PM
Or maybe those assaults and burgaries could be alchol induced? Oh wait thats legal so theres no reason to go after that. Or maybe they are abusing prescription pills?? Ohhh wait those are legal too. If your going to blame a surposide drug for crime i wouldnt blame the most harmless one first. It just goes to show how ignorant people are about a simple plant.

Yea, pot should be legal cuz it's harmless. Just ask those 5 people executed in mattapan including a 2yr old little boy with his mother. Who was marched naked down a street before a bullet to the head so the crooks could steal the harmless pot and money from selling it. Such a harmless little plant indeed.

A great waste of tax payer money. Course it all pads the police pensions so the political class won't do a thing.
you fools April 06, 2012 at 11:27 AM
Peter Parker the plant itself is harmless. The humans that sell it are dangerous. And why is that? Because its illegal and there's a massive profit to be made from selling it. Nobody is robbing and killing over the sale of alcohol. Except when they made it illegal back in the day. Shocking that I even have to explain this. Especially to Spiderman himself.
The usual April 07, 2012 at 07:10 PM
Complete waste of resources and tax payer money - but what else is new. Since there is no accountability for wasting money it'll continue unchecked.
Rick April 07, 2012 at 09:33 PM
Find a real crime - what a waste - the taxpayers continue to pitch underhand to you and you take it over the fence every time. Weak. Raise your crime prevention expectations..

If pot was legal there would be no need to kill for it.
