Daily 5: Summer Concert on the Waterfront, Sailing Fundraiser

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Thursday, July 18 in Charlestown.

1. Mostly sunny and hot: Thursday, July 18 will be sunny and hot, with heat index values as high as 103, according to the National Weather Service. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight; some storms could produce heavy rain. High: 97, Low: 76.

2. Swinging summer nights: Boston National Historical Park and Summer on the Waterfront is offering a series of free concerts at the Charlestown Navy Yard’s Pier 1 on Thursday evenings from July 11-25. The concerts run from 6-8:30 p.m. and feature a diversity of music. Jen Starsinic, who tours as the fiddler for the David Mayfield Parade and Lookout Mountain, will play on July 18.

3. Make-A-Mark fundraiser: Courageous Sailing’s annual Make-A-Mark fundraiser is coming up on Thursday, July 18 at Pier 4 in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Proceeds from the event help support inner city youth sailing programs that reach more than 1,000 children each year. Enjoy complimentary cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a light dinner, dancing and great music along Boston’s waterfront. Tickets cost $75 each, with group discounts available, and can be purchased online.

4. Free art: Admission to the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (100 Northern Ave.) is free to all ages every Thursday from 5-9 p.m.

5. Shakespeare on the Common: Commonwealth Shakespeare Company offers free Shakespeare On The Common throughout the month of July. Upcoming performances of “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” are scheduled for July 18 at 1 p.m., July 21 at 7 p.m. and July 23-26 at 8 p.m. For reserved chairs and to order picnic boxes, visit www.commshakes.org.
