People living on boats in Charlestown will have a home at least through September after a ruling by a Suffolk County judge.
The Shipyard Quarters Marina is home to 112 boats, including 30 houseboats. Boat owners received eviction notices last week because the state has asked the owner to repair the piers.
Suffolk Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Fahey halted the evictions until September. Knowing that a judge is listening to their pleas gives boat owners some relief, 36-year-old Michael Sullivan told the Boston Globe.
An assistant attorney general has argued that boat owners should have until Oct. 31 – the end of the boating season – to find a new home, according to a report in the Boston Globe.
