New York Times Map Offers Biking Wisdom By City

Do you have advice for fellow cyclists about where you pedal in and around Boston?

By Bret Silverberg

Boston is fast becoming a choice city for cyclists. That’s not only evident by watching the roads but also by watching what people have to say online about the various bike paths and not-so-visible cycling areas in and around the city.

The New York Times has published a comment-driven map generated by people who cycle in and around major U.S. cities.

By clicking the “Boston” tab, a reader would know to watch out for tour buses stopping and starting on Atlantic Avenue, double parking on Cambridge Street during morning rush hour and that the Charlestown Bridge's metal grating can be slippery in rain or snow.

The feature is called “Your Biking Wisdom in 10 Words,” and it has more than 6,000 comments overall, several in the Boston area.

The map is useful for out-of-town cycling as most U.S. cities—and even Toronto— are included.

So what words of wisdom would you have for bicyclists trying to get around Charlestown and the rest of Boston? Share your tips in the comments section below.
