First Official flag of the United States Raised in Charlestown

On January 1st 1776 George Washington commissioned the first official flag of the united states and it was to be raised on prospect hill in Charlestown Mass on this day, (now Somerville). The Charlestown Militia Company was stationed at prospect hill at this time.
January 1st 2014 the Charlestown Militia company will once again stand where their predecessors once stood and witness George Washington giving the command to raise the flag. Join us at Prospect Hill in Somerville, the short parade will leave the town hall area at 11:30 and march down the street to the hill and begin the ceremonies of raising the first official flag of the united states. What an honor to have our town be part of such a great moment in our countries history
