Veterans Day Celebration at Bunker Hill, Mister G's Bilingual Kids Concert

Events today around Charlestown.

1. Today's forecast: Rainy all day. Cloudy with occasional showers with a morning high of 62 degrees with temperatures falling to near 50 degrees. Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph. 

2. Bunker Hill Community College will host Shoshana Johnson, the author of "I’m Still Standing" and the first black female prisoner of war in U.S. military 
history, in a Veterans Day Celebration at the college onThursday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. Johnson will speak about the attack on her U.S. Army convoy during Operation Iraqi Freedom, her capture with other members of her company and the acts of bravery that followed until their rescue by U.S. Marines.

• Mister G (Ben Gundersheimer), a leading figure in the world of children's music, will be performing music from his literacy-themed, bilingual CD, "ABC Fiesta" from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Charlestown branch of the Boston Public Library, 179 Main St. Inspired by his tours throughout Latin America, including Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia, the album spans a wide range of musical styles from rock to reggae, funk to folk and a host of Latin influences.

4. Nearby Charlestown, at the New England Aquarium IMAX Theatre, 1 Central Wharf, at 7 p.m., will have a screening of "How to Save the Oceans and Feed the World" with Oceana CEO Andrew Sharpless who is the author of The Perfect Protein. He will talk about how with population growth expected to reach 9 billion by 2050, we will need more wild fish than ever to feed us, particularly since 1 billion of the poorest people rely on seafood as their main source of protein.

5. Every Thursday, join the Charlestown branch of the Boston Public Library for its Afterschool Science Club from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. for experiments and concoctions as we learn about science.
