Healthy New Year at Whole Foods, Homework Help

Events happening in Charlestown.

• In celebration of the New Year, Whole Foods Market at 51 Austin St. is starting with a new program called Health Starts Here to educate customers about the benefits (long and short-term) eating well can have for overall health. It all begins with a crash-course tour: the Basics of Health Starts Here today from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Participants must sign up in advance at the Customer Service desk in the store or visit the store's web site to sign up. • The Charlestown branch of the Belmont Public Library, 179 Main St., offers free drop-in homework help, academic support and mentoring available in all subject areas to students in grades K to 8 beginning at 3:30 p.m.

• Physicist and character on sitcoms ("Big Bang Theory") and cartoons ("The Simpsons" and "Futurama") Stephen Hawking turns 72 years old today. Also, David Bowie turns 67.
