Patch photographer Courtney Sacco captured the spirit of the Cook Street Playground re-opening on Thursday.

Mayor Thomas M. Menino joined Charlestown residents to unveil more than $280,000 worth in improvements to Cook Street Playground this past Thursday afternoon.

Located at 15 Hill Street, the re-opening of Cook Street Playground is a local highlight in the Mayor’s ongoing commitment to the parks and open spaces in Boston.

Improvements included two new play structures, seating, lighting and plantings.  The playground was designed by CBA Landscape Architects LLC with community input, and was constructed by C. Naughton Corporation.  Funding in the above mentioned amount for the design and construction was provided by the Mayor’s Capital Improvement Plan.

As part of the Park Opening, the play structures were rededicated to Charlestown resident William "Zeke" Marsden.  Mr. Marsden was a fourth generation railroad conductor and an enthusiastic member of the Charlestown community.

The reopening celebration included refreshments provided by Hood LLC, the official dairy sponsor for the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s 2011 park openings.
