Charlestown Farmers Market Kicks Off 2013 Season

The weekly event on Main Street offers fresh produce, meat, flowers and other items.

Charlestown may be without a grocery store for the time being, but local residents now have a place in the neighborhood to buy fresh produce, meat, eggs, flowers and other items throughout the summer.

The Kennedy Center's Charlestown Farmer’s Market opened for business on Wednesday, July 10 and will return every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to dusk through the end of October.

Located on Main Street, near the Hubway rack and right in front of the Bunker Hill Mall, the Charlestown Farmers Market features produce and meat products sold by Stillman's Farm, with the possibility of other vendors to come, according to Kennedy Center director Terry Kennedy.

Also represented at the market this week was DD's Dressing, based in Malden. Charlestown resident Jessica Fusco said she loves to use the lemony dressing as a marinade and explained that proceeds from the sale of DD's Dressing benefit the nonprofit David A. DeMaria Foundation. The dressing will be available throughout the summer at the market.

Jamaica Plain resident Jen Rogers was also on hand Wednesday, offering up samples of the culinary creations she makes through her business PerfectBite. Rogers has partnered with Stillman's to bring fresh foods to Boston residents.
