I dont doubt for a second that where you are right around the corner is entirely different than it is for those of us directly across the street.

Just to give you an idea ...the people below us and above us moved and many who are across the street from the valet area have invested in sound protecting windows like they use in East Boston near Logan (of course that works only when the windows are closed but it is a huge help).

I do believe talking is the key. I asked the owner of Tangierinos after the licensing board hearing to meet with those of us who live across the street before Wed nights CNC meeting. He said he had to check his schedule & call me. No word yet.

Sarah's comments gave me hope that the DJ license request may be behind us. If a smaller capacity lounge than was originally proposed is the plan then we arent as worried about people waiting in line on the street until 1 am but it is understandable that we need reassurance.

Please know that I have always seen it as a beautiful restaurant. A couple of suggestions would be to create a lobby inside where patrons wait & valets come get them when their cars are out front. The menu could include a little description of the residential neighborhood so "quiet" on the street after 11pm is appreciated.
Just some ideas that could make a difference to us.

To make things work the dialog has to happen and continue with those who live so close to his business until 2 am seven days a week.

Please know that I have always seen it as a beautiful restaurant. A couple of simple suggestions would be to create a lobby inside where patrons wait & valets come get them when their car was out front. Also, they could include a description of Charlestown (like on his website) in their menu saying the restaurant is in a residential neighborhood.

Still there are things to be discussed as neighbors so I hope at least he will come the the CNC neighborhood meeting Wednesday night. We will see....

I dont doubt for a second that where you are right around the corner is entirely different than it is for us directly across the street. Figs hasnt created a problem for us but those who live next door and across the street from Figs have had to work out issues from time to time. I asked the owner after the licensing board hearing if he would meet with those of us who live are across the street and said he had to check his schedule and will call me. Sarah's comments gave me hope that he may have left the DJ thing behind and room for people to "stand". If he is back to a smaller capacity and a lounge than that is great for us. Still there are things to be discussed as neighbors so I hope at least he come the the CNC neighborhood meeting Wednesday night. We will see....
I do think the place has a different impact depending upon where your apartment is so there will be many different comments I am sure. It has always been a beautiful restaurant.

Just want to be accurate ... the pending liquor license request is before the City's licensing Board.

Really I hope everyone who can come to the CNC meeting on Wed night at Mary Colbert Apts will be there and those of us who cant, will send a note to Bill Galvin.

No kidding the party buses that arrive and spill out people to 83 Main Street are something we need to negotiate! Hope the owner agrees.

I know this can look very different depending on where you live. I also appreciate that a conversation could bring about a solution because yes, we live in the City.
So I hope you will come to the Charlestown Neighborhood Council meeting this Wednesday at the Mary Colbert Apartments 20 Devens St at 7:00. If you cant make it, send your comments to Bill Galvin who is the CNC chair of this meeting.

Please consider the history of the last 4 years: Tangierinos was a 90 capacity restaurant with a 30 person lounge that closed at 11 pm. A multi-million dollar expansion added an underground lounge and the establishment was described as a new hot spot open until 1 pm with seats for as many as 150 and standing room for 300. The restaurant stops serving at 10pm. A City license was sought for a disc jockey but so many neighbors showed up at the hearing that request was withdrawn. A request for a full liquor license for the underground lounge with last call at 1:00pm is now pending before the State licensing board. Hope the next move isnt back to the City for a license that allows the DJ.
