Bring Out the Bunting! Help Paint Charlestown Red, White and Blue for Bunker Hill Day

Join the Townie Association in decorating the parade route with a patriotic theme.

This week starts the Townie Association’s campaign, "Paint the Town: Red, White and Blue." We kindly ask all businesses and residents along the parade route to adorn their properties with patriotic decorations in honor of the 2013 Battle of Bunker Hill Parade (June 16). "Paint the Town: Red, White and Blue" is an effort to increase local pride in the Bunker Hill Day Parade by providing Charlestown with a patriotic and festive environment. We are encouraging those who live within Charlestown to participate in our campaign "Paint the Town: Red, White and Blue" in order to help us boost excitement for the parade. By adorning your houses with Parade Day decorations, it will amplify interest and community pride in the Bunker Hill Day Parade. …

Townie Santa Looking for Volunteer Elves

Volunteers needed to assist with food preparations, packing, delivery and clean-up on Dec. 23 for program that serves Charlestown elderly.

“Townie Santa” will be visiting many of Charlestown’s elderly, needy shut-ins on Sunday, Dec. 23, to deliver Christmas gifts, a gift certificate for groceries and a turkey dinner.  Santa may be any one of several dozen neighbors who will devote this morning to sharing the spirit of Christmas with those who have difficulty getting up and about. Delivery of the baskets will begin at noon from James W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26, The American Legion, 23 Adams St. People with cars as well as those without are needed for this important task. Those who do not have their own transportation will be paired with a driver to assist with the delivery.  It takes just a short time commitment, and all deliveries are usually done by 1 p.m. In addition, a …

Charlestown Holiday Stroll Coming Up Soon

The annual event highlights local businesses and features a visit from Santa Claus and other activities.

With Thanksgiving just over one week away, the holiday season is upon us, and that means the annual Charlestown Holiday Stroll is fast approaching. The Charlestown Chamber of Commerce’s annual event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, kicking off with a visit from Santa Claus at 10 a.m. at Preservation Park (across from Thompson Square). Children of all ages, accompanied by an adult, are invited to come welcome Santa and visit with him. This year, many Charlestown stores, restaurants, real estate companies and other businesses will be participating in the stroll. A complete list of participants will be available soon.
