Outraged that Durty Harry's was vandalized on Halloween, residents asked the CNC why members have not got involved.
Why haven't members of the Charlestown Neighborhood Council intervened in the on-going dispute between local business owners and the teenagers loitering on Main Street? She would report teenagers who were blocking her store's entrance, harassing employees and customers and trashing the sidewalk with cigarette butts and beer bottles. But five weeks ago an adolescent stabbed the owner of Speedy Chen's Chinese Restaurant, prompting the police and the community to respond with more vigilance in the area, where business owners and neighbors alike complain that loitering teens have been causing trouble. That business owner who was calling the police every day? She says she's stopped in recent days. "It's so much better," she said, on the condition of anonymity. "The [day after the stabbing], there was a beat cop down here. …
