Boston Schools Open, No Parking Ban in Effect

City officials urge caution during the remainder of Friday's winter storm.

[UPDATED Friday, March 8, 10:05 a.m.] Boston Public Schools remain open Friday morning, though Mayor Thomas Menino is urging residents to use caution and take advantage of public transportation as much as possible for their morning commute in light of the ongoing winter storm. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for eastern Massachusetts until about 1 p.m. Friday. The weather advisory calls for heavy, wet snow with an accumulation of 6-10 inches as well as strong wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour.  As of 8 a.m., the city had not issued a snow emergency or parking ban; regular parking rules remain in effect. Boston Public Schools Closed Tuesday

Boston crews are working around the clock to make all city streets passable, forcing public schools to be closed again.

[UPDATED Monday, Feb. 11, 6:41 p.m.] Boston Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 12 because of the continued cleanup of the Blizzard of 2013 that dropped more than two feet on Charlestown and around the city. Mayor Thomas Menino's posted the following from his official Twitter account on Monday evening: "Boston Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, February 12. #bosnow #bps" Shortly afterward, his office released a statement confirming the decision. “The safety of our students comes first, and schools will remain closed as our snow removal crews work through the night and tomorrow to clear side streets and widen bus routes,” the mayor said in the statement. Boston Public Schools Closed Friday

All school activities for the weekend, including athletic events, have been postponed.

Boston Public Schools will be closed on Friday, Feb. 8 because of the impending snowstorm.  Mayor Thomas Menino has declared a snow emergency in effect beginning at noon on Friday. The storm is expected to drop as much as two feet of snow on the city and will last into Saturday afternoon. Along with classes, all Boston Public School activities that were scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday have been canceled, according to the district website. This includes all athletic events. All Family Resource Centers will also be closed on Friday. "Only essential personnel should report to work," according to the district website.
