Notable incidents from the District A-15 police log for June 29-July 1
On Friday, June 29, a victim living on High Street reported that he left his laptop in the hallway of his apartment building the previous night. When he went looking for it the following morning, he told police, it was gone. On Saturday, June 30 around 1:30 p.m., a victim parked on O’Reilly Way reported that he returned to his vehicle to find the rear window smashed and the windshield cracked. Officers responding to the scene found rocks on and around the vehicle, and a maintenance worker reported seeing youths atop a building nearby. On Sunday, Jan 8, an officer responded to a report of an armed robbery near 65 Winthrop Street. The victim told police that, while walking near Winthrop Street, a black male came out of an alley. The suspect said “ha Buddy,” the report said, “then flipped open a five-inch silver colored knife and asked the victim ‘what do you have?’” According to a police report, the victim then took $60-80 out of his wallet and gave it to the suspect, who then fled on Winthrop Street toward Monument Square. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, a resident visited the police department to report that she had had an ongoing problem with a neighbor in her condo building. Crime adds to recent trend.
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, officers responded to a robbery in progress near the parking garage at 68 Baldwin Street. Upon their arrival, an elderly woman told police that two men, both in dark hoodies and standing between five-foot eight and five-foot ten, came up behind her, pushed her to the ground and stole her purse. The purse contained $150 in cash along with personal items, she said. She refused medical attention and went home. The crime adds to a recent trend in Charlestown of robbers attacking women at night to steel their purses. In another recent event, the robbers failed to get the woman’s purse. Be careful coming back from the Community College T Stop late at night.
An unarmed robbery that occurred Sunday bore a close resemblance to another recent crime, but may not be connected. Boston Police reported that, on Sunday around 9:30 p.m., two men and a woman attacked a female victim on Monument Street. The woman told police (and later Charlestown Patch) that she had recently left the Community College T station. Sgt. Tom Lema said that another woman reported a similar attack on Saturday, Nov. 19. She told police that two men and a woman “punched her to the ground” and robbed her on Dunstable Street after she left the Community College station. The crime occurred around 8:15 p.m., Lema said, and both women were under 35. While the two crimes sound similar, Lema said they differ on important details. …

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, officers responded to a report of a domestic assault near the Tedeschi on Main Street. Officers spoke with the victim, who reported that she had had an argument with her live-in boyfriend inside the store and that he had then assaulted her outside on Main Street. Officers searched the area but could not find the man. An officer escorted the woman home, then later responded to another call and arrested a Charlestown man in connection with the crime. On Sunday, Dec. 10, officers arrested Nicholas Caso, of Chestnut Street in Charlestown, in connection with a crime reported earlier this year against an elderly resident. On Dec. 1, police responded to a report of a woman hitting a man at the Hess gas station at 123 Cambridge Street. According to a report, officers responded to the scene and found a woman wearing a black top yelling at a man wearing a ripped shirt. When questioned, the man reported that the woman, his girlfriend, had hit him in the head and scratched him after he reported that he was not yet ready to drive her home. His girlfriend appeared upset to officers, and reported that her boyfriend promised to get her home at a reasonable hour. Later, after being arrested and transported to the police department, the woman said “He wouldn’t drive me home, so I punched him,” while on the phone. On Thursday, Aug. 4, police were conducting a routine patrol around 8 p.m. at Charlestown Newton properties when an officer heard a sniffing sound in the stairwell at 63 Old Ironsides Way. Upon investigating, police found individuals sitting on the second floor steps, inhaling a powdery substance through a folded $1 and $10 bills. This is standard operation for sexual assaults. The prevailing logic is that it protects the victim's identity. We have a little more information on this coming tomorrow morning, though.   more ›
