Picture Charlestown: Bunker Hill Sky

A closer look at life in Charlestown.

Charlestown photographer Glenn Clabo captured these two images recently on the same morning—one of an amazing sky over the Bunker Hill Monument and the other of the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge reflected in the water. "The monument probably has been photographed from every angle every season and time of day, but this morning the sky was interesting so I just had to," Clabo said of the first image. "And then I walked down to the water and saw the the bridge reflection and couldn't resist." Got a great photograph of Charlestown? Email it to becca.manning@patch.com, text to 781-217-4233 or tweet @CharlestwnPatch, including a line or two about where or when the photo was taken.

That photograph of the Bunker Hill Monument, the trees and the green grass under a (somewhat) eerie-looking sky is so cool! Thanks for submitting it.   more ›

Picture Charlestown: Harborview Postcard

A closer look at life in Charlestown.

Charlestown photographer Glenn Clabo captured this shot of the Navy Yard last week, then took a little artistic liberty during the editing process to make it resemble an old-timey postcard. Facebook Photo Contest Winner 'Best Depicts Charlestown'

Congratulations to Paul Tranfaglia for receiving the most votes on his image.

The votes are in, and local photographer Paul Tranfaglia's image of the Bunker Hill-Zakim Bridge as seen from Pleasant Street is the winner of Charlestown Patch's Facebook cover photo contest. The image was one of more than 20 that were submitted through the contest, and it received 13 votes in the final round, which ran Nov. 19-21. "Some very fantastic photos here. But I will vote for #2 because it best depicts Charlestown," Patch reader Bette Task wrote about Tranfaglia's picture. Another Patch reader, C Ellis, wrote: "#2 shows a neighborhood, which to me represents Charlestown best." Coming in second place, with four votes, was "Charlestown at Twilight," photographed by Patch reader Jay Poole. Also receiving votes: Tranfaglia will …

Yes, You Can Take Photos on the MBTA*

* But not of "restricted areas" or if you're "interfering with transportation activity."

The right to take photos on public property, including the subway, is well established under the First Amendment. But depending on the T employee who sees you snapping photos, you might get hassled. Other riders have been known to take exception to shutterbugs, too. On Monday, the T updated its photo policy to make it clear that, under most circumstances, photography is allowed. Persons may take photographic or video images, including but not limited to film, digital or video recordings (Images) of MBTA Property, including but not limited to stations, buses, trains, or other vehicles for their personal use. Persons must not interfere with transportation activity while taking Images. The update comes after a period, post-September 11, when …
