T Driver’s Sayings Lift Orange Line Commute

Ja-Ron Freeman has earned a bit of celebrity among MBTA riders with his positive attitude, safety-first mindset and quotable catch phrases.

“Have a five-star day” or “it takes teamwork to make the dream work” are phrases one might expect to see on an internet meme or hear on a customer service phone call with the cable company. But probably not on the Orange Line. MBTA Orange Line conductor Ja-Ron Freeman has made these phrases his own. He speaks them while driving his train during his entire run-through on the Orange Line, but in an interview during his break at North Station on Friday, he said motivational clichés are not his intention. "At the end of the day it's all about safety. I don't want anybody to get hurt riding my train," he said. Couched within traditional train speak: “This train is bound for Forest Hills; keep your hands inside when the doors are closing." …

Please stop with that mentality. This entire country has changed. The world has changed. It's not as simple as believing that the good old boys used to regulate back in the day.   more ›

'Seen and Heard on the T'

We've all got stories of things we've seen and heard on the T. Share them with your neighbors here.

Flip through the gallery to see what other riders are seeing and hearing on the T. It's easy to add your own photos or videos too. Just click the big "Upload Photos and Videos" button at the top left. Be sure to add a caption saying which line you were riding and a description of your photo or video.   An Explanation of "Seen & Heard on the T" The T is one of my favorite places. Really. You get an unmatched cross-section of humanity. And you often see and hear some funny things. The kinds of things that, when you get to work, you have to tell people about. "The woman across from me on the T this morning was clipping her toenails." That sort of thing. (I've seen nails being clipped several times while on the Orange Line, by the way.) Our …

MBTA Releases Assembly Square Renderings

In a public meeting Tuesday night, MBTA officials planned to go over details for the construction of an Orange Line stop at Assembly Square.

The MBTA published some renderings of what the Assembly Square trains station could look like when it opens -- target date is fall of 2014.  Take a look.  The Assembly Square stop will be located between Sullivan Square and Wellington. The MBTA has already warned that construction will impact Orange Line riders while construction is underway.  If you're curious for more details, there's a public meeting tonight (Tuesday, Nov. 15) to introduce the project team and go over the construction schedule. The meeting will have a Somerville-centric agenda, but all are welcome. Meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Capuano Early Childhood Center at 150 Glen St. in Somerville.

From what I understand the developers are putting up most of the construction costs. The idea they have here is to try to get people who work in town to use the T and the Ikea crowd likewise are more likely to use the T (students). So having a T stop here does make sense as there is only two routes in & out by car, both entering into very heavy traffic areas. While the traffic engineers stated …   more ›
