CNC Awards 2012 Mitigation Grants

The Townies Association, CHAD, Harvest on Vine Emergency Food Pantry and several youth sports organizations were among those to receive funding this year.

Eighteen local organizations will begin or continue good work in Charlestown with the help of mitigation grants awarded through the Charlestown Neighborhood Council. Council member Peg Bradley announced the 2012 recipients at the Tuesday, Dec. 4 meeting held at the Knights of Columbus.  Every year since 2003, the council has given out $100,000 in grants to local nonprofits through its Mitigation Fund, which was set aside for Charlestown as a sort of compensation related to impacts of the Big Dig, Bradley said. Organizations must apply for the funds and present their projects to the Charlestown Neighborhood Council, which is charged with allocating the monies. Give Back This Holiday Season in Charlestown

In celebration of a new tradition, "Giving Tuesday," Patch offers this list of places that are accepting donations or volunteers.

First there was Black Friday, then there was Cyber Monday. Now there is a movement to create a new holiday called “Giving Tuesday.” Celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, the event encourages people to support nonprofit organizations through charitable activities at the start of the holiday season. Luckily, there are many ways you can help in Charlestown and around the city of Boston. Here are just a few opportunities to reach out this holiday season:  • The Animal Rescue League of Boston is accepting donations to help their cause of rescuing animals and preventing animal cruelty, abandonment and neglect. Unleashed also is have their Tree of Hope donation Drive. 100% of all donations go to Animal Rescue League of Boston and Pets in Need of Dracut/Somerville. Also they ask for donations of food, treats, toys, etc. which they give directly to Animal Rescue League of Boston.   more ›
