Tornado Watch In Effect For Charlestown Until 9 P.M.

The National Weather Service issued the watch Friday afternoon for most of central and eastern Massachusetts.

A tornado watch is in effect for Boston and most of central and eastern Massachusetts until 9 p.m. on Friday. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the watch at 3:40 p.m. on Friday afternoon. A flood advisory has also been issued for Suffolk County as an area of thunderstorms with torrential rainfall was moving, as of 3:30 p.m., northeastward from southern Connecticut and Long Island Sound. Close to two inches of rain fell in New Haven, CT in less than an hour due to the storms, the NWS said. "Rapid ponding of roadways will cause minor urban flooding through the mid-afternoon hours," the NWS statement said. First Snow Expected This Weekend, High Wind and Possible Flooding

One to three inches of snow is possible with strong, gusting winds that could knock down trees and power lines.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm watch for much of Massachusetts this weekend, and Boston is under a high wind and coastal flood warning. The storm, which may stretch from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, could leave one to three inches of snow on the ground in the city and kick up winds as high as 47mph. "Anticipate precipitation to change to all snow around midnight continuing into Sunday morning," the NWS said in an advisory statement on Saturday afternoon. "There is a possibility for 1 to 2 inch per hour snowfall rates at times. Snow should taper off into Sunday morning."
