Another Charlestown resident will be playing Division 1 college hockey. Aaron Titcomb has reportedly committed to playing for Merrimack College, a sports blogger posted last week. According to the Mack Report: Salisbury defenseman Aaron Titcomb gave a verbal commitment Merrimack College on Friday while making his official visit to North Andover. A 6-foot-4 defenseman, Titcomb played at Brewster Academy last season and captained the team, scoring 15 points (6-9–15) in 20 games. Titcomb, who was born in Charlestown, played high school hockey at Austin Prep in Reading before joining the Boston Bandits AAA Hockey Club, according to the Mack Report.
BU freshman Matt Grzelcyk was also named Hockey East Rookie of the Week.
Charlestown native Matt Grzelcyk scored his first collegiate goal in Boston University hockey’s Nov. 11 game against Boston College. The 11th-ranked BU Terriers ultimately fell 4-2 to the No. 1 BC Eagles. “Grzelcyk enters this Friday's game [Nov. 16] at Vermont on a four-game point streak, having tallied a goal and four assists during the stretch,” according to a news release posted on goterriers.com. “He is one of three freshman defensemen in the country currently averaging at least one point per game.” The local defenseman was also named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
