Mark Wahlberg to Reunite With Funky Bunch For Marathon Victims

The Hingham business owner said he looks forward to being at next year’s Boston Marathon.

Mark Wahlberg said he will reunite with his old hip-hop group, the Funky Bunch, to raise money for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. Wahlberg, who is co-owner of Alma Nove and Wahlburgers in Hingham, told TMZ on Wednesday that “he's totally game” to get the gang back together for a fundraiser. Earlier this year, Wahlberg said Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch could make a comeback. The Hingham business owner also told Fox 25 Boston that he looks forward to being at next year’s Boston Marathon. He said the bombing has hit close to home as he attended Copley High and walked Bolyston Street thousands of times in his life.  “I’m there all the time … when I was hooking school that’s all I did was hang around that area.” For more details…

Julia Stiles Coming to Charlestown with 'Ted' Veteran

Filming will take place on five days in September.

Julia Stiles and a movie crew will descend on Charlestown this month. Ryan Cook, a movie business professional who worked on the recent Boston-based Mark Wahlberg hit, “Ted,” told the Charlestown Neighborhood Council Tuesday that he will bring Stiles and crew to town on Sept. 12, 13, 24, 25 and 26. According to information supplied to the council and Charlestown Patch, the made for TV political romantic comedy “The Makeover” will film at Salon Fourty-Four, the active construction site at the corner of Park Street and Warren Street, the Charlestown Commerce Center, 12 Belmont Street and 56 Union Street. Cook said the plot follows a friendly beer truck driver who is made over to fill the role of a politician. He said he’ll do what he can to …

Wahlberg Project May Have Minimal Charlestown Impact

Camera crew has already been to town once.

Mark Wahlberg’s “Teamsters” docu-drama may focus on the Charlestown-based Local 25, but residents may not notice the filming. Teamsters’ Local 25 president Sean O’Brien told the Boston Herald this week that Wahlberg’s crew has already been to town to film a membership meeting, and will next turn their lenses on the union for its April 7 “Light Up The Night” autism fundraiser at the Intercontinental Boston. In a brief conversation with Charlestown Patch, O’Brien said that the project would focus on all aspects of Teamster life, including its political struggles and life on the worksite. Neither of those storylines, its worth noting, would bring cameras onto Charlestown streets. O’Brien told the Herald that it was difficult to convince his …

5 Things

Five Things: You Talk Fare Evaders, Local 25

With two sad losses for the town.

Today is Friday, March 9. Here are five things you need to know: 1. No mercy for fare evaders. We asked you yesterday whether or not you thought the MBTA police should be spending their valuable time cracking down on fare evaders. Early voting supported the work. What do you think? 2. Local 25 solid guys? Our report that Boston star Mark Wahlberg will film a TV docudrama in Charlestown stirred up conversation about Teamsters Local 25. Many said they’re great guys, but a commenter calling himself Joseph said this: “You will never be able to convince me that the Local 25 lives up to the appearance they try to create…. When John Gotti was busted and the media interviewed his neighbors, not one person said anything negative about the man.” …

Around The Web: More On Mark Wahlberg's Teamster Show

Have questions about what might be coming? Charlestown isn't the only place that his plans have received coverage, so check out our round-up for a more comprehensive picture of the situation.

Not every Teamster lives in Charlestown, but since the Teamsters Local 25's headquarters are in the neighborhood, it's more than likely that cameras will show up in the 02129 when Mark Wahlberg starts filming his new show about the members of Local 25.  If you're wondering just what kind of show it will be, the Boston Herald's "Teamsters" article quotes Mark Wahlberg himself on the issue: “This show will be about quality stuff,” he told the Herald. “It’s really more a docu-drama than a reality series. Because when you say ‘reality show,’ people think ‘Jersey Shore.’ Hey, I watch it and I’m entertained. But this show will be entertaining because it’s a fascinating world the Teamsters live in and there’s drama on a daily basis.”  Wahlberg's …

I didn't realize that Upper Crust was union. Or Woodman's in Essex, or Pizza Regina. There were also places on Broadway in South Boston, sandwich shops in the Sound End and other places all over Boston. They also use local lumber companies. They rent local properties of non-union workers. I can go on but I won't.   more ›

POLL: Wahlberg-led Reality Series Coming to Charlestown

What do you think of more cameras rolling into Charlestown?

Remember when you, our readers, expressed hesitation about the idea of a “Real Housewives”-style reality show being filmed in Charlestown? Well, how do you feel about Real Union Workers? Boston-bred Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg has partnered with A&E to produce an unscripted reality show called Teamsters, which will focus on the Charlestown-based Teamsters Local 25 union. According to a press release, the show aims to capture “the real-life world that provided such color to films as The Fighter and The Departed.” The release continued: “’Teamsters’” will give viewers a first hand glimpse of the most legendary union in the most aggressive and territorial city in America: Boston. Here, the Teamsters Local 25 battle for the rights of their 11…
