MGH leaders worry what cuts would mean to Institute students.

MGH Institute President Janis Bellack on February 8, 2012, sent the following letter detailing the Boston health sciences graduate school's reasons why the MBTA should not cut services, as it is considering. The institute then published the piece as an open letter last week. Dear MBTA Board of Directors: I am writing to you on behalf of the entire school community at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in the Charlestown Navy Yard. We are all very concerned about the proposed cuts in bus and ferry service to the Navy Yard. Online Surveys are a great way to gather data and be able to understand what the majority of the population is thinking about. I have been doing online surveys for well over 5 years and this helps out the big corporations in developing new products for the consumer. You can even get paid for doing this. MGH Doctor to Run Marathon for Young Townie

Dr. Howard J. Weinstein aims to raise $100,000 to help children diagnosed with cancer.

This April, a Boston doctor will lace up his shoes and run the Boston Marathon in honor of a six-year-old townie recovering from leukemia. Dr. Howard J. Weinstein aims to raise $100,000 before the race, and aims to apply those funds to help Lily Waldeck and other children like her. Garry Waldeck, a Charlestown resident since 1999, said that his daughter, Lily, started suffering from fevers last summer. They would come, then go, then return. Eventually, doctors ran blood tests and found that Lilly’s condition wasn’t a matter of repeated colds but a type of cancer. “Once we stepped foot into the ‘cancer’ clinic, we knew we were not there to get good news,” Garry Waldeck said. “Our little Lily was diagnosed with Leukemia. She was admitted to …

I'm not sure I see the connection to a dictatorship or communal ownership here. At least 400 people are in support of a bill that reinforces existing laws designed to keep kids from smoking, which seems pretty democratic to me. Do either of you think banning tobacco sales to minors is bad for the country, and why?   more ›
