Thanksgiving Weekend Travel Tips

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is urging residents to plan ahead for travel this weekend and offers some tips to beat the worst of the holiday traffic.

Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, with the full peak setting in the afternoon on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and on Sunday, Nov. 25. An estimated 50,000 drivers will travel through the Ted Williams, Callahan and Sumner Tunnels on the day before Thanksgiving, and one toll booth on the Mass Pike alone will see more than 100,000 cars, according to The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).  The busiest traffic areas are on I-90, where Exit 9 connects the Mass. Pike with I-84 to New York and Connecticut. Heavy traffic congestion is also expected at the I-95, I-495 and I-93 exits heading north towards New Hampshire, according to MassDOT.
