Clougherty Pool Closed Until Sat., But Heres Where to Go

Not everything is open yet for the season, but here's where you can head to cool off.

It's 90 degrees out, but don't bother going to the Clougherty Pool. Because it's closed. The city's outdoor pools—which include the Clougherty Pool in Charlestown and Mirabella Pool in the North End—aren't scheduled to open until Saturday, when temperatures will drop down to 75. However, all the indoor pools are up and running, a city spokesman said. The cooling centers are also open, and have the air conditioning on, which means Charlestown residents should head to the Charelstown Community Center instead. Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the South End are without designated pools or cooling centers in their neighborhoods, but there's always the Christian Science Center fountain. South End residents can also get wet by heading to a spray park at…

Did You Survive the Hottest Day in 85 Years?

Plus, a tall ship was in the Navy Yard this weekend. Check out our photos.

Today is Monday, July 25. Here are five things you need to know today. 1. Hopefully most of you made it out of the heatwave healthy and hydrated. It was epic. Friday was, according to the National Weather Service, the second highest temperature on record for Boston at 103 degrees. That's the hottest day in 85 years. Kind of amazing. 2. More facts: State officials are currently exploring an expanded Bottle Bill, which could add to the variety and number of containers in Massachusetts that could be sold with a deposit. What's one plus in this scenario? The state employs 14,000 people in the recycling industry. Adding more deposits would provide work for more people and small businesses, including the 140 redemption centers across the state. …

PHOTOS: Kids Lead the Way in Beating the Heat

A Patch photographer documented yesterday's heat around the city. Seems like the kids are smarter than the adults.

'Excessive Heat Warning' in Effect Til 6 p.m.

The heat index could register as high as 107 today. Ouch.

Today is Friday, July 22. Here are five things you need to know today. 1. Well, it's still hot. So hot that the National Weather Service has issued an "excessive heat warning" -- in effect until today at 6 p.m. Temps could be as high as 100, and that nasty old heat index might register as high as 107. Ouch. 2. What might help? Ice cream. After a dip at the pool, or a walk along the harbor, you could stop at Emack & Bolio's in City Square. Or maybe there's another place you like to go? Boston.com put together a regional (as in New England-wide) roundup of the finest ice cream dealers. Did your favorite make the cut?  3. Don't forget: You can swim a little later today. The Clougherty is open until 8. (Not 9, like other city pools, for lack …

Extended Hours at Pool, Cooling Centers

The Clougherty Pool is open until 9 p.m. until we get through this heat wave.

Today is Thursday, July 21. Here are five things you need to know today. 1. It's hot. Wicked hot. Here's what the city is doing to help you stay safe and stay cool. The Clougherty Pool is open later -- until 9 p.m. And there are "cooling centers" available for residents at the Community Center, over at the high school, and at the Golden Age Senior Center on Main Street. 2. This week Kathy Giordano's got a great column on the Irish influence in Charlestown, and the greater Boston area. I'm willing to bet many of you might be interested in this topic. Take a few minutes to read it. You'll be glad you did. 3. Well. There was a bank robbery in Charlestown this week. On Tuesday, a local man made off with an undetermined amount of cash from …

Hi Kristi, Just want to post two things about the pool: (1). Clougherty will close tonite at regular time: 8 PM., because they do not have lighting to go 'til nine. The Community Center Pool on Medford Street will be open until 9 tonite. (2). There was no 7 AM lap swim this morning but that will resume tomorrow.   more ›
