Mayor Menino Issues Heat Advisory for Tuesday — High of 99 Predicted

Forecasters say the high could be 99 degrees on Tuesday. Here is a list of ways to stay cool and safe.

UPDATE, Tuesday 1:50 p.m.: Mayor Menino will keep the city's indoor pools open until 9:30 p.m. today because of the heat. Boston could break record highs on Tuesday as the mercury is expected to hit 99. ~~~~~~ Mayor Thomas Menino has declared a heat advisory. He activated the city's alert system, which sent out texts, emails and phone calls with a warning to stay safe. The following tips are from the city's heat information page. Do: Don't: Be sure to take breaks in the shade while outside, wear loose, light-colored clothing and sunscreen, and try to stay inside where it's air-conditioned. Ways to Beat the Coming Heat

The city of Boston issued a heat advisory and safety tips in preparation for rising temps this week. Here's how to stay cool in your neighborhood.

With temperatures expected to skyrocket this week - we're talking high 90s on Wednesday and Thursday - the city of Boston issued a heat advisory, reminding residents to drink plenty water, take breaks in the shade while outside, wear loose, light colored clothing and sunscreen, and try to stay inside where its air conditioned. It's the perfet time to go catch a movie. “Summer is arriving at full steam, and as we prepare for the first potential heat wave of the season there are a few important things to keep in mind,” Mayor Thomas Menino said. “In these conditions we must remember to stay cool and hydrated and keep an eye on our vulnerable neighbors.” Children, the elderly and homeless people are particlarly susceptible.
