Have Lunch, Raise Money for the Harvest on Vine Food Pantry

This weekend the Navy Yard Bistro hosts a fundraiser for Harvest on Vine. Plus, the Harvard-Kent welcomes the community today with a 'school preview.'

Today is Thursday, Nov. 10. Here are five things you need to know.  1. The annual Harvest on Vine fundraiser at the Navy Yard Bistro is scheduled for this weekend. Have a delicious lunch on Sunday and proceeds will support the neighborhood's only food pantry. Ticket info. 2. Been curious about the Harvard-Kent? Get a peak inside, meet the teachers and learn about the programs available to students there at an open house today. It starts at 12:30 and you can find more info here. 3. This Friday over at the USS Constitution Museum you can get your very own silhouette portrait. The museum hosted this event last year -- a sort of Veterans Day event. A Chat with Tom MacDonald

The director of Harvest on Vine and newly-published author will present his crime novel at Olivia Browning this week.

Tom MacDonald has worked as the director of social ministry at St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena Parish since 2003 and manages the Harvest on Vine Food Pantry. Outside his day job, though, the Braintree resident is also a writer and recently became a published author. His first novel, “The Charlestown Connection,” follows protagonist Dermot Sparhawk as he tries to solve the mystery of his godfather’s murder. MacDonald will present “The Charlestown Connection” at Olivia Browning Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Patch: How did you begin writing fiction?
