Charlestown Boys & Girls Club Helps One Fund

Staff and members of the local community center collected nearly $200 for the cause.

The Charlestown Boys and Girls Club hosted a fundraising event for the One Fund on Friday, May 24. The event was organized by club members Maryone, Karuna and Shereena. Members and staff baked goods and created artwork and T-shirts for sale at the event. The event raised a total of $193.80. —Submitted by Peter Nash

Good Shepherd Preschool Fundraiser Set May 9

The annual event raises funds for scholarships and curriculum enhancements.

The Good Shepherd School, founded in 2009, is holding its fourth annual fundraising event—a silent auction which is open to the entire Charlestown and greater Boston communities. The event, named “Spring is Sprouting”, helps the school provide scholarships to families as well as enhance the school’s facilities and curriculum. “Good Shepherd’s mission includes serving the diverse range of families in our community as well as cultivating the intellectual and emotional well being of our children. Our annual fundraiser is essential to fulfilling our mission and keeping our program affordable for families. Friends Raising $750,000 for North End Woman Injured in Bombings

Roseann Sdoia reportedly lost her right leg in the explosions on Monday, April 15.

Friends of a North End woman severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombings last week are hoping to raise $750,000 to help her with hospital costs and other needs during her recovery. According to a post on GoFundMe.com, North End resident Roseann Sdoia had attended the Red Sox game at Fenway Park on Monday, April 15 and had walked over to the finish line at Copley Square to watch the rest of the marathon when she was injured by the explosions. “Roseann suffered serious injuries as a result of the explosions and has lost a leg above the knee,” wrote Christine Rousseau Hart, who attended high school and college with Sdoia. Mayor, Legislators To Host Kennedy Center Fundraiser

The event will be held March 13 at the Knights of Columbus.

Mayor Thomas Menino, state legislators Sal DiDomenico and Gene O'Flaherty and City Councilor Sal LaMattina will be in Charlestown next week to host a special fundraiser for The Kennedy Center. The reception will be held on Wednesday, March 13 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall and will include light refreshments and beverages. A contribution of at least $100 per person is requested.   Tickets can be purchased at the door or by sending a check to the John F. Kennedy Family Service Center at 23 A Moulton Street, Charlestown, MA 02129. Navy Yard Bistro Hosting Spaulding Team Fundraiser

The event will help the Race for Rehab Boston Marathon group reach their goal.

[UPDATED Friday, Jan. 25, 9:27 a.m.] Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is teaming up with Charlestown’s Navy Yard Bistro for a special event to help the Race for Rehab Boston Marathon Team reach their fundraising goal. The fundraiser will be held on three evenings—Sunday, Jan. 27; Monday, Jan. 28; and Tuesday, Jan. 29—from 5-9 p.m. at the Navy Yard Bistro, 1 First Ave. Each $50 ticket will include a three-course tasting meal, with half of the cost going to support the Spaulding team. Event Spotlight: Support the Community Center

The Warren Tavern is hosting a fundraiser for the Charlestown Community Center on Sunday.

Stop by the Tavern on Sunday between 3 and 7 p.m. to support programming at the Charlestown Community Center.  Free music and appetizers donated by the Warren Tavern, a $20 donation is requested to help support programs at the Community Center. Organizers will also be selling our "pot of gold" tickets...For a $60 tax deductible donation you will be entered into a monthly raffle to win $500. There will only be 200 tickets sold. For a $5 tax-deductible donation it is a great "deal".... 12 chances for $60.

Help the Boys & Girls Club Swim Team Get to Nationals

Members of the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club Swim Team are headed to the National Championship, but they need local support to get there.

For the first time in 40 years, seven members of the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club Swim Team will help represent Team New England in the Speedo Boys & Girls Club Swimming National Championship, but they need your help fundraising. On Saturday, Jan. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. the team will be holding a fundraiser at their reunion held at the Warren Tavern. All donations will be welcome. The competition will be held April 8-10 at the Carrollwood Village Swim Club in St. Petersburg, Fla. The members from Charlestown will join forces with other Boys & Girls Clubs from around the area including Blue Hills, South Boston, Woburn and Nashua, N.H. to form Team New England.
