Menino Approves Redistricting Map

The Boston City Council submitted three maps to the mayor, with the first two being vetoed.

  Boston Mayor Thomas Menino approved the redistricting map submitted by the City Council, and the new districts will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014. The new Boston City Council district map is attached to this article with blue lines denoting the new districts. Charlestown remains in District 1, which added a couple of precincts. The council supported the new map, 11-2. The first two maps approved by the Boston City Council barely passed the council, 7-6, on both maps. Menino vetoed those maps, and on both occasions citing, "over-concentration of protected groups" in districts. Label the NAMES of the BORDERING STREETS of the DISTRICTS. Make the map more easily understandable for folks not familiar with precinct numbers.   more ›
