Chris Remmes will take over leadership of the ward committee.
Local resident Chris Remmes was elected chairman of the Charlestown Democratic Ward Committee at the meeting following the recent caucus on Feb. 13. Remmes replaces Paul Hollien Jr., who stepped aside because of family obligations. “Chris will bring a positive energy to the committee and will work to bring people together," Hollien said after the election. Remmes is a longtime resident of High Street, a 1987 graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the first openly gay chair of the Ward Committee. Twelve local residents were elected as representatives at a caucus held Feb. 13.
[UPDATED Tuesday, March 5, 10:23 a.m.] Twelve Charlestown residents will be representing the community at the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2013 Platform Convention on Saturday, June 1 in Lowell. The local Democrats were elected during a caucus held Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Charlestown Community Center. The delegates include Dennis Cunningham, Christine Downing, Stephen Eisele, Alexis Finneran, Dannielle Valle Fitzgerald, Delphine Hamilton, Jack Kelly, Katelyn Kelly, Douglas MacDonald, Ian Mackey, Donna Henderson O’Brien and Chris Remmes. Democrats in Charlestown will hold a caucus, to elect delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2013 Platform Convention, on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Charlestown Community Center. All registered Democrats in Charlestown are eligible to participate. “At our 2013 convention, the delegates selected by Charlestown Democrats will debate and adopt our platform for the next four years, catch up and network with other organizers around the Commonwealth and hear from some exciting future leaders of our party,” Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh said.
