At-Large Councilor Felix Arroyo To Address CNC

The city official is visiting more than 40 neighborhood associations throughout Boston.

Boston City Councilor At-Large Felix G. Arroyo will visit Charlestown tonight, delivering a community report to the Charlestown Neighborhood Council during their 7 p.m. meeting. Charlestown residents are welcome to attend the meeting, which will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 545 Medford St. Arroyo has been making his rounds to the more than 40 neighborhood associations in Boston, starting last week with visits to Hyde Park, West Roxbury, Mission Hill and Dorchester, according to a press release from the councilor's office.  “Every job I have had required me to report back on my work, and I believe this job should be no different," Arroyo said in the release. New Member Elected to Neighborhood Council

Charlestown resident Amanda Reinfeld will join six incumbents as at-large representatives on the CNC.

Local voters re-elected six incumbent Charlestown Neighborhood Association members and one new member to the seven at-large seats at an election held Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Knights of Columbus hall. New candidate Amanda Reinfeld earned a spot on the council, along with incumbents Barbara Babin, Peg Bradley, Tom Cunha, Ed Grace, Mark Rosenshein and Erin Sullivan. Incumbent Paul Clausen also ran for a seat but did not receive enough votes. A total of 325 people voted in the CNC election, according to CNC vice chairman David Whelan. The CNC serves as an advisory group for Boston City Council, representing the Charlestown neighborhood. Childcare Company Eyes Bunker Hill Pavilion

National Development is negotiating a lease with the prospective tenant.

Charlestown could be getting a new option for childcare with the renovation of the former Bunker Hill pavilion. Jerome A. Kyllingstad, vice president of National Development, presented an early look at the project at the Nov. 8 Charlestown Neighborhood Association meeting. National Development, which is behind other renovations in the Constitution Center area, is currently negotiating a lease for about 9,600 square feet in the former pavilion—identified as "building 3"—for a yet-to-be-named childcare company, Kyllingstad said. The project would involve a reuse of the existing building and would be “very low impact,” Kyllingstad said. Residents Push for Grocery Shuttle as Johnnie's Closes

The Charlestown store is expected to shut down for renovations by Nov. 19.

With Johnnie’s Foodmaster reportedly closing by Nov. 19, Charlestown residents are urging officials to come up with a plan for shuttling people to supermarkets in Somerville or Chelsea. At the Charlestown Neighborhood Council meeting Thursday night, several people raised concerns about getting a transportation program up and running—especially with Thanksgiving exactly two weeks away. One council member said the decision of what to do “should have been made yesterday.” Danielle Fitzgerald, neighborhood coordinator with the Mayor’s Office, said that the mayor was working with City Councilor Sal LaMattina and the Boston Elderly Commission to come up with a plan to help residents get to a grocery store—likely either Market Basket in Chelsea …
