BHCC Hosts Kickoff For New Veteran Service Web Site

Site produced through a collaboration between MGH, the Red Sox Foundation and the Broadband Institute, among others.

State officials including Lt. Gov Tim Murray and Attorney General Martha Coakley gathered at Bunker Hill Community College Friday to cut the ribbon on a new tool to help veterans find their benefits. “This is the first time I’ve been to a ribbon-cutting for a website,” Coakley said. “I’m sure we have an ap for that.” The new site, www.MassVetsAdvisor.org, offers access to more than 200 state and federal benefit programs for education, counseling, employment, health care and more. “Returning to civilian life is challenging,” said Kyle Toto, a U.S. Army veteran who worked with Massachusetts Broadband Institute on the project. “When I came home from Afghanistan I wanted to spend time with friends and family and not have to search endlessly …

Bunker Hill Community College Holds Biomedical Careers Graduation Ceremony

Eighteen students graduate this week.

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) celebrated the graduation of 18 students from the Cambridge Biomedical Careers Program (CBCP) in a ceremony that also marked the 20th anniversary of the program.  CBCP is a collaborative effort between BHCC’s Workforce Development Center, the Just-A-Start Corporation and the City of Cambridge. It targets low-income Cambridge residents who complete – at no cost – a nine-month intensive 18-credit program that provides the academic background and hands-on skills needed to gain entry-level biotech jobs in the greater Cambridge area. Bunker Hill Appoints New Dean

BHCC President Mary L. Fifield appoints Dr. Valerie T. Smith as Dean of Mathematics, Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Smith as Dean of Mathematics, Behavioral and Social Sciences, BHCC President Mary L. Fifield announced today. Dr. Smith earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She is currently Chair of the Social Sciences Department and Associate Professor of Psychology at Endicott College, in Beverly, Massachusetts. She will join the BHCC staff on August 12, 2012. Dr. Smith’s educational credentials also include a Master of Arts degree in Sociology and Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Spanish, both from the University of Texas in …

BHCC Inaugural Learn & Earn Program A Success

Bunker Hill's new internship program was a real win-win with students and employers.

Bunker Hill Community College’s new “Learn and Earn” student-intern program does more than just prepare students for jobs, they often place them in jobs. An esthetician and self-described unconventional student, Adelina Keshishian is a 26-year-old BHCC business major and student mentor from Malden. Sporting a Ron Paul 2012 t-shirt, her brown eyes lit up when she spoke of her passion for helping and inspiring others.  Keshishian graduates next spring and plans to matriculate to a 4-year school and pursue a career combining her interests in law, politics and business.  She just completed an internship in the corporate social responsibility department at EMC, the data storage giant in Hopkinton, Mass. UPDATED: Cops Release Video Connected to Stephen Perez Murder

New video released by Boston police depicts four individuals of interest in the killing of the 22-year-old Army sniper and Bunker Hill Community College student.

Editor's Note: This article has been updated with new information from the Boston Police New surveillance photos connected to the death of 22-year-old Stephen Perez outside a downtown nightclub April 28 have been released by police. Perez, an Army sniper who saw time in both Iraq and Afghanistan, was a student at Bunker Hill Community College and the president of the BHCC Veterans' Student Club. According to a WHDH Boston report, Perez had just returned from a tour overseas when he was killed outside a Theater District nightclub on April 28. Investigators released the attached surveillance video over the weekend, and now say they have determined where those individuals were that evening. Homicide investigators have determined that the …

Editor's Note: This article has been updated to reflect the soldier pictured, Stephen Perez, was not killed in combat, but, rather was the victim of a homicide in the Theater District on April 28. Today's photo comes from Sen. Scott Brown's Wednesday visit to Bunker Hill Community College. Brown posed for a photo with student veterans who held up a photo of one of their own who died recently under tragic circumstances. Stephen Perez, 22, was a Revere native and a student at BHCC, who survived stints in Afghanistan and Iraq, only to tragically lose his life last week outside a Boston nightclub. God bless Stephen and his whole Family, this is truly a tragic loss. His Brother Sean left not even a week after this happened. He is serving our country over in Afghanistan.
