Bunker Hill College Names New President

Dr. Pam Eddinger will take over following the retirement of Mary Fifield on July 1.

Bunker Hill Community College has named a new president. Following a six-month search, the college—with campuses in Charlestown, Chelsea and the South End—has named Dr. Pam Y. Eddinger as its new president. Eddinger comes to Bunker Hill from Moorpark College in California, where she has served as president since 2008. Prior to that, she worked as vice president of MassBay Community College in Wellesley. After receiving the unanimous recommendation of the BHCC Board of Trustees on April 22 and the approval by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education on April 30, Eddinger will take the helm on July 1, following the retirement of president Mary L. Bunker Hill Community College Student Named One of '29 Who Shine' in Commonwealth

Business major Valter Gomes was selected for the award along with 28 other students from Massachusetts institutes of higher learning.

A Bunker Hill Community College student this week was named one of "29 Who Shine" at colleges across Massachusetts. Valter Gomes is a business major at BHCC, which has a campus in Charlestown, and was one of 29 public college and university students to be recognized for their academic achievements and civic contributions to the Commonwealth.  Gomes, an honors student who is co-president of the BHCC Sustainability Club, spearheaded the “Rethink the Way You Drink" campaign, which led to the installation of a water hydration system at BHCC's Charlestown campus. "Valter arrived at Bunker Hill Community College with a strong interest in sustainability and a passion for entrepreneurship," according to his bio posted on the 29 Who Shine Awards …

Bunker Hill College Ranked Among City's Largest

The Charlestown institution was listed eighth biggest in the region, with the highest enrollment of part-time students.

For the second consecutive year, Bunker Hill Community College was ranked eighth largest among the region’s colleges and universities, according to the Boston Business Journal’s new Book of Lists. In addition, the college has the area’s single largest enrollment of part-time students. The Boston Business Journal annually compiles a Book of Lists to create a snapshot of the area’s economy, businesses, health-care institutions and colleges/universities. With 12,934 full-time and part-time students as of fall 2011, Bunker Hill Community College ranks eighth in enrollment, ahead of such institutions as MIT, Tufts, Brandeis and Bentley as well as the Commonwealth’s other 14 community colleges.  While BHCC is one of largest institutions of …

President Fifield to Retire From Bunker Hill Community College

FIve Bunker Hill Students Published in 'The Nation'

The poems appear in an article written by BHCC writing professor Wick Sloane.

The following was submitted by Bunker Hill Community College. It has not been edited. The current issue of The Nation magazine has published the poetry of five students who were enrolled in a College Writing I class at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC). The Nation is the oldest continuously published weekly magazine in the country, and is widely recognized in literary circles for its poetry. The students are: Neehmias Afonso; Felipe De Moraes; Arlyn Gonzales; Chantal Midgette; and Joe Saia. Wick Sloane, the students’ writing professor, wrote the article in which the poems appear. 13 Bunker Hill Students Get $5k Scholarships

The group will transfer to Northeastern's College of Professional Studies.

Thirteen Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) alumni transferring to the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University this fall will be awarded $5,000 scholarships. The BHCC graduates will be honored at ascholarship reception at Northeastern University on August 29.  The scholarships will be awarded to BHCC students who, based on their transcripts and application essays, were selected by a scholarship review committee at Northeastern University. The scholarship reception, which will be held in the Raytheon Amphitheater of the Egan Research Center at Northeastern University, will include opening remarks by the Dean of the College …

150 Students at Bunker Hill Ready for College

Countdown to College program aims to ease the transition for Boston Public Schools graduates entering college programs.

More than 150 students and their families attended a Countdown to College event at Bunker Hill Community College a free seminar and resource fair for incoming freshmen and their families.  The event, sponsored by  Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Brown Brothers Harriman, United Wayof Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley and Success Boston, included in workshops such as "The Budget Balancing Act," which offered advice to families about financial aid options, and “Passing with an A,” which offered suggestions for academic support. BHCC Hosts Kickoff For New Veteran Service Web Site

Site produced through a collaboration between MGH, the Red Sox Foundation and the Broadband Institute, among others.

State officials including Lt.
