Professional actors and lifelong Charlestown residents Jennifer and Kristin Johnson, along with Jennifer's husband, John Peitso, a graduate of Boston University's Theater Study program and a composer and multi-instrumentalist, took stewardship of the Charlestown Working Theater at a time when it was in danger of closing. The Charlestown Boys & Girls Club on Thursday unveiled its brand-new “Music Clubhouse.” Funded by the Music & Youth Initiative, the Music Clubhouse is a state-of-the-art recording studio and band-practice area. Music and Youth Initiative develops and funds after-school music education andenrichment programs. The Boys and Girls Club's Music Clubhouse Program gives young people in underserved urban communities the opportunity to build self-confidence andinterpersonal skills while fostering an appreciation of music. The Studio Clubhouse will focus on music recording, video production, lyric writing, beat making and vocals.

Continuing what began last year after a long hiatus, the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club Swim Team sent a select group to compete at the Boys & Girls Club National Championship held recently at Carrollwood Village Swim Club in St. Petersburg, Florida. Their impressive performance earned a 2nd Place Overall Finish. Over a successful three day event from March 30-April 1, the Charlestown Club team joined other Boys & Girls Club swimmers including Blue Hill, Roxbury, South Boston, Billerica, Woburn and Nashua, N.H. forming Team New England. Emily McCavanagh was out for a run on the day when she decided she want to change career paths from public relations and marketing to helping people improve their lives through fitness. "I had an epiphany and I was just over it," said McCavanagh. "Fitness has always been a huge part of my life. I was a gymnast and I went on to play field hockey and lacrosse in college. I think everyone should find something they love to do and do it everyday. Fitness should be fun." In November of 2009, she launched F.I.T. (Fitness Inspired Training), an all-encompassing and affordable lifestyle changing program including exercise, nutrition and overall well-being.
