Charlestown Hoop Players on All Star Team

The team will play Saturday at Northeastern University.

Suffolk Construction’s Boston Scholar Athlete Program announced that five Charlestown students will play in this weekend's Dr. Joseph D. Warren Memorial Boston City League Basketball All-Star Game. Juniors Sara Centeio and Shannon Simpson will join the girls' squad. Juniors Tyrese Hoxter and Omar Orriols, along with senior Rony Fernandes will join the boys' squad. The second annual game is sponsored by the BSA and Boston Center for Youth and Families. The Boys’ and Girls’ games will feature the city's top high school basketball all-stars, as voted by their coaches. Attendees will have the opportunity to have photos taken with the Celtics trophy. Admission is free. The BSA was launched in the summer of 2009 in collaboration with Mayor …

Globetrotter Slick Willie Shaw will start at the Bunker Hill Monument and make his way across the bridge.

The following has been taken from a press release and lightly edited. Harlem Globetrotter Slick Willie Shaw will dribble and spin basketballs over the Charlestown Bridge today. He will start in front of the Bunker Hill Monument at noon, travel part of the Freedom Trail, and finish about 45 minutes later at the basketball courts at DeFilippo Playground—a stretch of nearly one mile. Slick’s grand arrival tips off “Globetrotter Week” in Boston, which includes school visits and goodwill appearances. The week concludes as the Globetrotters bring their one-of-a-kind skills for two big games at the TD Garden on Sat., March 31 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Watch Sweet 16 Teams for Free at the Garden on Wednesday

Teams will be practicing at the Garden in Boston and the public is welcome to attend for free. The Sweet 16 starts on Thursday.

Maybe you can't afford the tickets for the Sweet 16 games at The Garden in Boston starting on Thursday in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. But you can still get some live glimpses of the four squads, for free, while they practice on Wednesday. The public is welcome to attend four practice sessions for the four Sweet 16 teams. The Garden's doors will open at 11 a.m. Wisconsin is practicing at noon. Cincinnati is at 1 p.m. Syracuse is at 2 p.m. Ohio State is at 3 p.m. Syracuse will face Wisconsin and Ohio State will square off against Cincinnati on Thursday night. Who do you want to win? Townies suffer overtime loss.

Charlestown marched their game to the TD Garden Monday night, and put up a strong effort, but fell in overtime to Brockton’s surge. Coach Edson Cardoso’s crew fell behind in the first half before fighting back to take a lead into the final minutes of the fourth quarter. As the clock ticked down, though, Brockton tied the score and forced the game into overtime. The boxers continued that surge and built a five-point lead—too much for the Townies to overcome. Fans tweeting from the game called it good game, saying that Charlestown played its best. Despite the loss, the squad from Charlestown High School still stands as the MIAA Division 1 North champions—a title they can claim due to their tight victory over Lexington this weekend. Brockton …
