On Thanksgiving Day, Bob and Carol Sweeney and a group of volunteers served up turkey, dressing and other holiday fare to the community at the J.W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26 American Legion headquarters on Adams St. The annual Thanksgiving dinner has been a Charlestown tradition for more than 25 years.

Charlestown residents without somewhere to spend Thanksgiving are invited to come celebrate the holiday at the American Legion. A free meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. until about 1 p.m. at the J.W. Conway Bunker Hill Post 26 American Legion headquarters, 23 Adams St. The annual Thanksgiving dinner has been a Charlestown tradition for more than 25 years and has been organized for the past 20 years by Bob and Carol Sweeney. Those who join in the festivities will enjoy the usual Thanksgiving fare, including turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, various side dishes and dessert. The James Conway Bunker Hill Post 26 of the American Legion is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring high school juniors who have an interest in government or in ROTC/service academies for this year's Boys and Girls State program. Students who attend learn how government works, how laws become enacted and participate in mock elections for offices similar to local and state positions. There is also an extensive social, athletic and entertainment program that attendees may voluntarily participate in. Boys and girls from around the state attend.
