Edwards Playground is a big open space on Main Street, at the midpoint between Thompson and Sullivan squares and next toMore Edwards Middle School. There is a big lawn for picnics and sunbathing, as well as a playground and street hockey and basketball courts. It's not the best-kept park in Charlestown but serves as a de facto backyard for the people who live nearby.

Also known as Charlestown Heights, this park was designed in 1891 by Frederick Law Olmsted. Its three acres bridgeMore Bunker Hill Street to Medford Street and visitors can travel down the hillside that separates the two streets on an Olmsted-style meandering path constructed with Roxbury puddingstone. The park has a lot to offer: Playgrounds for young children, a basketball court, picnic tables, grassy fields, park benches and lots of space for a leisurely walk. From the top of the path that leads up from Medford Street, there is an excellent view of Boston harbor.

Charlestown High School is divided into four independent learning communities that offer students the chance to study inMore a more intimate setting, while still having the benefit of attending a large school. The high school maintains strong partnerships with colleges, including Boston University's COACH program, to prepare students, starting from the 9th grade, to pursue a higher education. It offers unique courses in Arabic, entrepreneurship and forensic science, as well as a variety of athletic and extra-curricular activities. Its boy's basketball team has been top-ranked both state-wide and nationally.
