Weekend Agenda: Sales Tax Holiday, Free Teen Defense Seminar

SATURDAY, AUG. 10

  • Sales Tax Holiday—All day, across Massachusetts. Buy those big ticket items this weekend and avoid paying sales tax during another tax holiday approved by the Massachusetts legislature. The holiday does not apply to restaurant meals, tobacco, telecommunications, gas, steam, electricity, motor vehicles or boats or any single product that costs more than $2,500.
  • Charles River Rummage—10 a.m. to noon at 500 Broad Canal Way, Cambridge. Help clean up the Charles River while working toward a cash prize. Kayakers are charged with trying to clean up as much man-made debris as possible in one hour on the river. RSVP online at www.charlesriverrummage2.eventbrite.com.
  • Visit the USS Constitution—10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Learn more at ussconstitutionmuseum.org.
  • Greenway Open Market—11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, North End. Shop a variety of handmade and locally produced fine art, jewelry crafts, ceramics, apparel and accessories as well as handmade imports that are fair trade or eco-friendly.   • Madonna Della Cava Feast—Noon-11 p.m. at Hanover and Batter streets, North End. Cigar Authority with David Garofalo will broadcast from the feast from 12-3 p.m. Stardust will provide entertainment from 8-10:45 p.m., and a grand raffle will be held at 11 p.m., according to a schedule posted at NorthEndWaterfront.com.   • North End Wine Tour—2 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Aragosta (Fairmont Battery Wharf Hotel, 3 Battery Wharf), North End. Learn about grapes, Italian food pairings and the history of the North End with a wine tour led by City Wine. Cost is $65. Reserve a spot at www.citywinetours.com.

SUNDAY, AUG. 11

  • Madonna Della Cava Feast—11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Hanover and Batter streets, North End. St. Stephen’s Church will host a Holy Mass at 11 a.m. The procession will begin at 1 p.m. Vinyl Groove will entertain from 8-11 p.m. The grand raffle will be held at 10:45 p.m., and the feast will conclude at 11 p.m., according to a schedule posted at NorthEndWaterfront.com.   • Free Teen Self Defense Seminar—5:30 p.m. at Krav Maga Yashir Boston, 200 Terminal St., Charlestown. Teens ages 13-18 are invited to sign up for a free self defense seminar. Register online at bostonkravmaga.com.
  • Sunday Movie Series—Dusk (around 7-8 p.m.) at Christopher Columbus Park, North End. Boston Push Cart’s free movie series will be held on Sundays through Aug. 18 at Christopher Columbus Park in the North End. Movies are open to the public and begin at sunset, according to NorthEndWaterfront.com. The Aug. 11 feature will be “Seabiscuit.”
