Weekend Agenda: Book Launch Party, Arts on the Greenway

SATURDAY, JULY 27

Visit the USS Constitution—10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Learn more at ussconstitutionmuseum.org.

Greenway Open Market—11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Shop a variety of handmade and locally produced fine art, jewelry crafts, ceramics, apparel and accessories as well as handmade imports that are fair trade or eco-friendly. Figment Boston 2013—11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Participate and view creative activities in “every imaginable medium available,” according to the Figment Project website.

Saint Joseph Feast—Noon to 11 p.m. in the North End. Enjoy kids’ activities like face-painting, a variety of musical performances, parades, food and more.

The Last Tenement Exhibit—12-4 p.m. at The West End Museum (150 Staniford St.). “The Last Tenement” exhibit documents the history of the West End during the immigrant era from 1850 to 1958. Learn more at thewestendmuseum.org.

Colonial Dance Tunes and Love Songs—1-4 p.m. at the Paul Revere House (19 North Square) in the North End. Hear Al Petty and Deirdre Sweeney perform popular 18th century tunes on the penny whistle, flute, fife and other instrucments.

Summer Arts Weekend—1-4 p.m. at Spectacle Island and on the Greenway. Participate in craft projects with Beehive art studio. Free activity but regular ferry fees apply.

Shakespeare on the Common—2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the Boston Common. Commonwealth Shakespeare Company will present a free performance of “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.” For reserved chairs and to order picnic boxes, visit www.commshakes.org. 

SUNDAY, JULY 28

Visit the USS Constitution—10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Charlestown Navy Yard. Learn more at ussconstitutionmuseum.org.

Annual Deer Island Ride—10 a.m. at Paul Revere Park in Charlestown. Join Boston Natural Areas Network for this East Boston Greenway ride with spectacular views of the city and harbor. The route will follow scenic waterfront, city streets, greenway and off-road paths and end up at the tip of Deer Island. Book Launch Party—1-4 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Hall in Charlestown. Award-winning author Tom MacDonald will sign and sell copies of his newest book, “Beyond the Bridge”—a prequel to “The Charlestown Connection.” The Old Brigade will provide Irish music.
