The Mayor of Charlestown Race

The Mayor of Charlestown Race began in 1982 by the Charlestown to Charlestown Committee. Every year, the Mayor would accompany the winner of the Charlestown Rose Contest on a trip to Charlestown, Mayo, Ireland – where the Rose would represent Charlestown, MA by competing in the Western International Rose Contest. The tradition of the Mayor of Charlestown Race ended in 1998.

The Townie Association has no intention of letting the tradition fall to the wayside, and will be running the election again this upcoming Charlestown Parade Week (the week prior to Parade Day) in June 2014. Whoever sells the most ballots will succeed Shannon Lundin as the “Mayor of Charlestown” for 2014. The Race will begin on April 1, 2014. Interested candidates can submit applications starting on March 15, 2014 at the Townie Toast. Proceeds from the Mayor of Charlestown Race benefit the Townie Association Inc.
