Candidates at a Glance: Sunshine Smith

After living in Charlestown for more than 5 years, “Sunshine” Smith has decided to throw her hat into the “Mayor of Charlestown” Race. She is a single mom, of Cape Verdian/ Portuguese decent, living on Carney Court with her 6 year old daughter named “Beautiful Angel." Sunshine is employed at the Warren Prescott School and is also a volunteer at the Harvard-Kent where her daughter attends the first grade. Prior to living in Charlestown, while growing up in the South End and Roxbury she said she was grateful to have spent much of her time at the Boys and Girls Club. You may have met Sunshine as the past assistant coach for Charlestown Youth Basketball, and also assistant coach of Charlestown Youth Baseball League. Sunshine loves living here in Charlestown and would like to see more activities geared towards the 5 to 8 age bracket, possibly a gymnastics team, or dance classes. She is all about keeping her daughter active and she herself wants to be more actively involved in her community. Although she does not have Irish Roots that she knows of for sure, she looks forward to visiting Ireland with her daughter if she wins the title. Wish her good luck when you see her and you can help her achieve her goal by buying chances or calling Sunshine at (857) 417-3124.

The winner of the 2014 Mayor of Charlestown Race will be announced on Friday, June 13 during the "Night Before" Banquet at the Knights of Columbus. For tickets to the event, contact Doc Sheehan at (617) 242-0180.
