Candidates at a Glance: David DelMedico

David DelMedico can trace his family roots back to his grandmother, Betty "Richards" Peltier, who graduated from Charlestown High School around 1950. He is a proud union carpenter, who is also proud of his 2 sons, Ryan and Eddie, both of whom he speaks of very highly. When asked about growing up in Charlestown he admits that having a last name that wasn't Irish had its challenges, and like most of the kids here he had to fight his way into acceptance.

Dave has many friends that he grew up with and with whom he is still close with today. Like many Charlestown teens, His life got sidetracked by substance abuse, for which he sought and received treatment. As the years go by, he reflects on his past, remembering that playing sports in the town kept him busy and on the right track. Dave's focus is on having more youth sports programs actively available and in place to entice today's teens to participate and have something more constructive to do with their free time. He also makes himself accessible to young people who are interested in the trades unions and staying on the right path. Dave looks forward to the chance to serve as our honorary Mayor and use the opportunity to raise funds for more youth activities, and more awareness for those trying to move past addiction and set goals for their future. You can reach David by email at davdddel@gmail.com, or by calling (857) 615-1872, or on Facebook if interested in helping him achieve his goal of being Honorary Mayor of Charlestown!

The winner of the 2014 Mayor of Charlestown Race will be announced on Friday, June 13 during the "Night Before" Banquet at the Knights of Columbus. For tickets to the event, contact Doc Sheehan at (617) 242-0180.
