Tonight: Lenten Prayer & Reconciliaton Service

“Come back to me with all your heart.” Especially during the season of Lent, God sends us a deeply personal invitation: “Come back to me with all your heart.” On Monday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m., our Parish will hold a Lenten Communal Prayer and Reconciliation Service in our magnificent Saint Mary’s Church on 55 Warren Street.

Some people question the need for a communal reconciliation service. Why not just go to private confession? It’s important to keep in mind that we live in community. Whatever we do, whether good or bad affects everyone, not just ourselves. All of our actions have communal consequences. Because of this, it is important to somehow involve the community in our efforts at reconciliation.

Attending a communal prayer and reconciliation service provides us with an opportunity to pray and to acknowledge our mistakes before our good and loving God together as a people of faith. Then, in private confession, which is offered as part of the service, we are able to have a personal encounter with Jesus and share our struggles with the priest who serves as an instrument of God’s healing forgiveness and reconciliation.

We invite all members of our Parish Community to come together for prayer, community reconciliation and the opportunity for private confession. Priests will be available to hear confessions for both Spanish and English speaking parishioners. Come, let us return to our God with all of our hearts.
