This winter, we come to the greatest in need
Charlestown is not detached from those who suffer from poverty, homelessness, and hunger. For years, St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena Parish has confronted these challenges by helping the greatest in need. Our success is fueled by the customary generosity of this wonderful community. Take a look at three missions and programs that are helping others.
Winter clothing. Cold is certainly on everyone's minds this frigid winter. The Parish has launched a men's winter clothing drive for the Long Island Shelter, Boston's biggest shelter. Collection boxes can be found in the back of St. Mary's Church at 55 Warren Street and beside St. Catherine's Chapel under the Church at Warren and Soley. Examples of donated items are coats, jackets, jeans, sweaters, gloves, hats, and scarves. Items will be collected through February 23. We appreciate your kindness and support!
Food assistance. One of our strongest programs is the Harvest on Vine emergency food pantry, which provides assistance to 600 families in Charlestown. Twice a month, clients can make use of several food stations thanks to donations collected from local residents and drives, with other stock purchased and provided by the Greater Boston Food Bank, Rosev Dairy, and Costa. Your food and monetary donations are a major force behind HoV operations. To learn more about how you can help, click on the link above!
St. Vincent de Paul. The oldest charitable organization within our Parish is the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, a quiet force for good in our community for more than a century. Our local St. Vincent de Paul conference has actively supported Charlestown residents in need with a variety of services; sometimes a piece of furniture or a utility bill, sometimes a medical problem. Like Harvest on Vine, its functions are not effective without your active support. Please do not forget the poor as you leave church or the chapel. Donation boxes are at the doors as you leave.
