Townies Hoops Team Trumps South Boston, 104-78

The Charlestown Boys' Varsity Basketball Team defeated South Boston in a dominating fashion Saturday. The victory improves the Townies undefeated league record to 5-0.

The Charlestown Boys' Varsity Basketball Team soared over South Boston Saturday afternoon with a final score of 104-78.  The win improves the Townies' undefeated league record to 5-0.

Despite the final score, Charlestown started off shaky giving up a 7-0 run to South Boston at the start of the game.

However, after a time out to regroup, Charlestown came out of the huddle looking to bounce back and they were successful.

At the half, the Townies led by 14 with a score of 52-38 and they didn't leave any of their momentum in the locker room for the second half.

While the majority of the team played solidly, Akosa Maduegnunam led his team with a double-double notching 24 points and 12 rebounds. Tyrik Jackson was solid in the paint, playing strong defense and getting physical when necessary. Play-maker Rony Fernandes did a great job handling the ball and assisting his teammates.

The win also boosts the Townies ranking from #18 to #10 in the Boston Globe's Statewide High School Rankings. Charlestown is the only team in the state to average over 80 points per game (80.4).

The Townies will look to keep their season undefeated on Thursday as they host Madison Park for a 6:30 p.m. game.
