Charlestown High Cancels Thanksgiving Day Game with Latin Academy

Charlestown forfeits game; does not have enough players to safely play the contest.

Residents anticipating the yearly shouting, cheering and marching band music emulating from Charlestown High School's football field on Thanksgiving Day morning, Thursday, Nov. 28, are in for a bit of a shock. 

This Thursday what neighbors will hear is … silence.

Due to a lack of student athletes currently on the team, Charlestown High School Dr. Margaret Ranny Bledsoe has cancelled the game against Boston Latin Academy scheduled for 10 a.m.

While the Townies could suit up 15 players on Thursday, they did not have enough linemen on both offense and defense to play the game, according to Boston.com .

The game will go down as a 2-0 forfeit, giving Latin Academy the win.
