Townies Compete in Division 1 East Finals

Charlestown faces Brockton tonight at the TD Garden.

The Charlestown Townies brought a different style of team to this weekend’s Division 1 North basketball finals—small and quick, according to Boston.com versus Lexington’s roster of big and powerful players.

In the end, small and quick did it. The townies squeezed out a 48-44 victory and will advance to the Division 1 Eastern Mass Final tonight against Brockton at the TD Garden.

Both Boston.com and ESPN Boston described the game as tight. With just seconds left, the Townies clung to a one-point lead, until senior Rony Fernandez came out of a time out to sink a three-pointer and expand the team’s safety buffer.
