North Bank Bridge to Open SOON!
We are excited for the newest connection from the NorthPoint neighborhood to Charlestown! The cool bridge you've seen constructed over the commuter rail lines from Revere Park, is called the North Bank Bridge. The construction looks to be near completion and the bridge should be opening soon. Look for news of the bridge opening ceremony here!
The North Bank Bridge will connect Mass DCR's 8.5 acre North Point Park (and the East Cambridge NorthPoint neighborhood) to Charlestown's Paul Revere Park for pedestrians and cyclists. This bridge is an important continuation of the Charles River paths, connecting many neighborhoods of Boston.
You can read more about the bridge planning and construction at Bridge Design & Engineering Report: "Twist & Turn", courtesy of The Charles River Conservancy.
If you haven't been to North Point Park yet, make sure you check it out! The park is beautifully designed with large areas for sports, smaller areas to picnic or relax in the sun, a dock, fountains, and a very fun children's playground all on the quiet banks of the Charles River.
The North Bank Bridge is also near the future sight of the Charles River Conservancy's skate park, to open in 2013. We will keep you updated on the progress and you can read more information here: Charles River Conservancy Skate Park
A great opportunity to visit the park or spend more time and meet your neighbors will be happening at the end of July. Come out for REI's Summer Camping Festival on July 28th from 10am - 4pm. The event will have something for everyone in the family!
