Tuesday’s news about the has drawn anger, disappointment and condemnation of the organization’s executive director, Jack Millerick.
“The DDS would be incredibly remiss in their obligations to the taxpayers of the Commonwealth if they continued to fund the LFC while Jack Millerick and his extend family remain at the helm,” wrote Charlestown Patch commenter John R. Murphy, “That Jack Millerick continues to hide behind Larry Rasky and his team of high paid flacks is sickening.”
Commenter Larry Fine called Millerick “ultimately” responsible for the agency’s announced closure while saying it was sad for those who receive services there.
A user calling him or herself Mum22 focused on the agency’s clients with her comment: “How sad for the 140 people LFC provides services to. I hope they all are able to find another agency that will fill the gap.”
On twitter, a user named Marie Rose said that she knows someone who has been personally involved with the agency for years.
“I am beside myself,” she wrote. “It breaks my heart these people depend and need the LFC in their lives and they [are the] ones losing everything.”
On our Facebook page, several commenters focused on the workers at the agency.
“Not every one of them was greedy,” wrote Lisa McGoff Collins. “There are a few that loved that Center, and still do, and they don't need to be rolled into the Greedy ones!”
Back in the comment thread attached to the original article, a user calling him or herself Hayes Square speculated that the move from the Department of Developmental Services was a ploy to force out Millerick.
“I give it to Friday for Jack to step down,” Hayes Square wrote.
Another user said it was likely too late for the agency to be saved. Charlsetown Patch called DDS for comment, but has not yet heard back.
